Product Design Web App liftplan.ch

Traditionally, elevator planning at AS Aufzüge was a manual, time-consuming process led entirely by sales representatives guiding customers through every configuration step. With liftplan.ch, this dynamic has fundamentally changed. Designed for prospective customers – including architects, property owners, and developers – the webapp allows users to pre-configure a lift according to their needs before speaking to a sales advisor. This early-stage self-service approach not only saves valuable time for both sides but also creates a shared foundation for more efficient and focused sales consultations.

The Challenge

One of the biggest challenges in designing liftplan.ch was simplifying a highly consultative, technically detailed process into a user-friendly digital experience. Our target users – often with low to medium technical affinity – needed guidance through a series of decisions without being overwhelmed. This required a UX approach that reduced friction, clearly visualized dependencies, and progressively revealed information. The UI had to feel approachable and focused, with no unnecessary clutter. I worked closely with backend and frontend developers to ensure that the design was not only clean and intuitive, but also feasible within technical and business constraints.

Objective/Goal

The goal from a UX/UI perspective was to create a self-service configurator that feels effortless to use – yet powerful in outcome. We aimed to give users the confidence to explore complex product options through a seamless flow, with just the right amount of guidance. Every screen, interaction, and layout was designed to support clarity, reduce cognitive load, and promote a sense of progress. Beyond usability, the experience needed to reflect the professionalism and reliability of AS Aufzüge. By making the pre-sales phase more accessible and user-driven, we helped improve engagement and set the stage for more efficient, focused sales conversations.

The Design Process

The project followed a mix of UX and UI design steps, adapted to what was most useful at each stage. Some phases were more detailed than others, but all contributed to creating a product that’s both intuitive and visually clear.

User Flow & Wireframing

To ensure a smooth and intuitive experience, we started by mapping out the complete user flow, defining key decision points, dependencies and the logical sequence of steps. This gave us a solid foundation to structure the journey in a way that felt both natural and user-friendly.

Based on this flow, we created low-fidelity wireframes to explore layout, content hierarchy, and functionality. These early drafts allowed us to iterate quickly, gather feedback, and align with stakeholders before moving into visual design.

UI Design & Prototyping

With the structure in place, we moved into the visual design phase, translating wireframes into a clean, focused interface. Our goal was to create a UI that feels approachable and easy to navigate, especially for users with low to medium technical affinity.

We designed key components with clarity, consistency, and responsiveness in mind, making sure they not only look good but support usability across devices. Interactive prototypes allowed us to test visual hierarchies, interactions and micro-behaviors early on, helping us fine-tune the look and feel before development.
